The Texas caribou (Rangifer tarandus texanus) is descended from barren-ground caribou that were either brought to Texas by humans or migrated to North America from Alaska and Canada. They are very adapted to the grasslands and prairies of Texas and roamed in vast herds of hundreds to thousands and often migrate to search for new feeding grounds. They are very similar to their ancestors, but with shorter fur.
