Living alongside the Toraton are other species of turtles and tortoises. One of these giant turtles is the Tapirtle, a giant longnecked, hippo-sized relative of the Indian flapshell turtle with a short tapirlike trunk, hence the name. Like the Toraton, the Tapirtle has a reduced shell and cares for its young. While adults can defend themselves from predators, young are vulnerable and stick with their parents for safety. The Tapirtle has an omnivirous diet likes its modern relative, eating aquatic plants, grasses, flowering plants, leaves, invertabrates, frogs and fish.
