The Springtrap is an insect-like predator found on the planet of Terrius.
Anatomy[]
Springtrap legs are elongated to nearly tripling the length of their own body. The muscles within these legs are highly developed into a specialized spring-like system (hence the name), which allows the Springtrap to launch itself up to 30 feet into the air. The mandibles of the Springtrap split into two separate jaws: one beak-like interior jaw with a larger jaw used to gripping onto prey. Their eyes evolved to face primarily upwards, allowing it to keep an eye out for predators while idling waiting for prey.
Within the inner legs of the Springtrap, scientists found open gaps within the muscle that hold fat reserves, allowing the Springtrap to survive without food up to two weeks at a time.
Behavior[]
The Springtrap is a notable ambush predator of the swamps and marshes. It often lies and wait within a specific hunting spot, leaving only its eyes exposed and jaws locked open for prey to come close. Once a suitable prey item is within range, it will jump out and latch onto its victim with its longer mandibles. Its secondary jaws will then push forward and start consuming the animal while it's still alive. While highly specialized, its elongated legs make it a cumbersome mover, meaning that it is highly vulnerable to other predators when traveling to different hunting positions.
One study of the Springtrap revealed that offspring of the Springtrap are primarily subterranean and will only venture onto the surface after the first few months of life.
