Nean musk oxen are subspecies of musk oxen native to Nea, one of the continents of XD54.
Evolution[]
Nean musk oxen evolved from musk oxen that were transported to this planet due to mass poaching and habitat loss. They quickly spread across most of the arctic regions and tundras of Nea. They became slightly larger than their counterparts.
Description[]
Like their counterparts of Earth, Nean musk oxen roamed the arctic regions and tundras in search of the roots, mosses, and lichens that sustain them. In winter, they use their hooves to dig through snow to graze on these plants. During the summer, they supplement their diet with Arctic flowers and grasses, often feeding near water.
They often formed protective circles to protect themselves against predators. The main predators of Nean musk oxen are bears, hyenas, wolves, big cats, etc.
Known subspecies[]
- Northern Nean Musk Oxen - A large subspecies of musk oxen that lived in the alpine tundras, polar regions and temperate grasslands. They are one of the largest subspecies and roamed in large herds led by a dominant bull.
