The Atlas zebra (Equus zebra montanus) is a descendant of mountain zebras that migrated to North Africa and evolved to adapt to the mountainous and lowland regions of the mountains. They are similar to their ancestors, but with slightly thicker fur to survive the cold.

Atlas zebras are social herbivores. They lived in herds with a dominant stallion, females with their young. The main predators of Atlas zebras are Atlas lions, Atlas gray wolves, Atlas wild dogs, hyenas, etc.
